For a long time FAQs have been misused, instead of real and relevant content, companies put questions they “wished” users would ask (WAQ, Wished to be Asked Questions).

FAQ pages and Sitemap pages both present excellent opportunities for organic optimization while simultaneously improving user experience, which is always the best combination. If, that is, they're done properly as outlined here.
