Interesting infographic - it's quite right that the best online marketing is a mix of SEO and brand building. Of course some niches branding can be a lot more difficult than in others. That being said, doing good brand awareness building can also be directly building off-page SEO, and doing good off-page SEO is brand building! If the best quality links come from links in relevant content on authoritative websites, you're talking about getting legitimate editorial coverage of your brand.

I think one of them completes the other.
The more you're branding yourself online, the more links you'll eventually get (SEO).
