How feeds work[/b][/b]
The online syndication works on similar lines. People who creates content like new sites, podcasts, videocasts or bloggers-allows the content to be passed on to those who would like to publish it on their site, or just be get informed as new posts. The message that is passed is called a feed (web feed), which contains meta information besides the core content of the developer. There are mainly two formats in which the feed is structured commonly–RSS and Atom, both are based on the XML file format. RSS or really simple syndication (or rich site summary) is the more commonly used format and it is common to refer to a feed as an RSS feed even though it may be an Atom feed. To be able to display the feed one requires an application that can identify the main formats. A stand alone application that can recognize the main formats is called a feed reader (RSS reader) or feed aggregator, which can be web-based or desk top- based. Newer browser like Opera 9 and IE 7 comprise an RSS feed reader, so as some e-mail clients. Additionally there are websites that can offer similar functionality as a standalone client.
Websites that creates RSS feeds have links to them on the site. If the browser supports RSS feeds, clicking on the link will launch the inbuilt client or the external feed reader. The feed reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new content.
