Very interesting post. I had heard Google doing this to RAVEN some months back.

I wonder if this would also happen to a company that is using a 3rd party service to run keyword ranking reports? :O

Something to consider as the SEO world moves ahead.

Hi DJ,

Got to admit that the same question crossed through my mind too, lets hope that we will get an answer soon.

Yeah Steve and I were talking about just this concern as well. Same concern with SEOmoz's loss of AdWords API access. Google can't directly punish services for running rank reports, so looks like they'll use whatever leverage they have on other fronts.

Yes DJ, Google is already taking action against companies who are using scrapped Google data. Recent Action was against Raven Tool, they were using scrapped data for Keyword Rank Position tool. The tool will be no longer be available from January. Read

Also recently Ahrefs also planned to shut down keywords analysis feature which was using scrapped data. Read

Google is presently warning all such companies who are using scrapped data or other illegal way of getting data. It seems Google is playing Monopoly here.
